The Port Huron Golf Club Invitational wrapped up late Saturday with 98 teams and nearly 200 golfers competing in the annual event. Kyle Whymer and Nick Conard won the first flight in a playoff after one-hole over Dieter Schulz and his partner Marc Gielow. In the second flight, Duke Campbell and Mike Bush beat out Dan Pink and D.J. Westrick in a playoff. The 3rd flight saw Chis Voss and Rob Wilkinson over John Beecroft and Jim Cole. There were also several other flights that teams competed in. Joel Peatie, head professional at PHGC said it is the most playoffs in flights that he has ever seen.
More news for the Port Huron Prowlers as their season draws near. The team announced this week the signing of Drew Anderson and Robin Yew. Anderson is a 21-year-old native of Manitoba who spent time last season splitting between the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. Finding ice time as both a center and a wing, Anderson was able to net 13 goals and assisted on 22 between both leagues. Yew is a 23-year-old native of Saskatchewan who also played in the SJHL two seasons ago. Yew played overseas in Sweden last season and as a defenseman appeared in 29 games while racking up 8 assists. Coach Joe Pace says both add more youth to the roster i to help combat the long grind of the season. The Prowlers will first drop the puck at McMorran Arena on November 8th when they take on the Columbus River Dragons.
