Governor Rick Snyder has proclaimed September 17-21, 2018, as SepticSmart Week in Michigan and the St. Clair County Health Department is celebrating the 6th annual event. There are 25,000 homes in St. Clair County that depend on septic systems to treat their wastewater. Environmental Health Director, Steve Demick, encourages residents to take advantage of SepticSmart Week to schedule their next septic system service. He says, “If not properly maintained or inspected, failing septic systems can contaminate groundwater and harm the environment by releasing bacteria and household toxins to local waterways.
