For 5 years the Pure Michigan Country Market has been the place to go for all things Michigan, and now customers can find locally sourced deli creations as well.
Tammy Malinaro, owner of Pure Michigan Country Market, said the idea behind MI Deli is to bring more healthy eating options to the area. “Everything in the store is definitely not organic, but I do try to get as healthy as I possibly can,” Malinaro said. “The same with the deli. I try to use higher quality stuff in there just so we can eat Healthier.”
The deli counter has some pre-made sandwiches for those in a rush, but customers can get made to order sandwiches, salads, and soups at the counter. Soups include standard classics such as chili, chicken noodle, and vegetable beef, as well as a rotating soup of the day.
Malinaro said customers’ reactions to the new deli options have been positive, and she soon plans on adding pasta and burgers to the menu.
Customers can get more than just a bite to eat as they browse Pure Michigan Country Market.Local products including produce, dairy, syrup, and honey line the shelves and fill tables. Local crafters also sell their wares.Supporting local is a big part the Country Market mission. Fresh produce is supplied by a farmer in Riley who uses organic practices to grow her crops. Milk comes from Crooked Creek in Romeo. The beef comes from the Lakeport area, the pork from Fostoria up by Lapeer. Bread for the deli is made by a local artisan bread maker.
“It’s all Michigan. And most places don’t have just Michigan,” Malinaro said.
The Pure Michigan Country Market and MI Deli is located at 1133 10th Ave., which is on the corner of 10th Ave. and Kearney directly behind McLaren Port Huron Hospital.
