As the rain comes and goes, throughout the month of June one exciting thing to look forward to is the summer solstice. So today, Friday, June 21st marks the longest day of the year and the official first day of summer for anyone north of the Equator. Here’s a quick science lesson. According to National Geographic, “Solstices occur because Earth’s axis of rotation is tilted about 23.4 degrees relative to Earth’s orbit around the sun. This tilt is what drives our planet’s seasons, as the Northern and Southern Hemispheres get unequal amounts of sunlight over the course of a year.” Now one way to celebrate the first day of summer is with an ice cream cone. Luckily Dairy Queen is offering a free cone to any customer who has their mobile phone app.
