The Sanilac County Historical Society is inviting all Sanilac County third graders to participate in the “Name the Alligator” contest. Shirley Schmidt, Research Chair at SCHS, explains, The alligator was captured, mounted, and stuffed by Thomas Carson in the 1890’s. Mr. Carson was a Croswell resident who held a fascination with Florida. The alligator was donated to the Historical Society in 1968. Deadline for submissions is March 1st. The winning name will be chosen by the “Name the Alligator” Committee members. The winning entry will be chosen on originality, creativity, grammar, and spelling. The winner will be announced in mid-March and will receive a plush alligator. A plaque with the winning name will sit beside the alligator in the exhibit at the Museum.
