June is pet preparedness month and the Michigan State Police Division of Emergency Management Homeland Security wants to make sure that all pet owners are fully prepared before a disaster occurs. Michigan State Police reports that “Often times, pets are overlooked in an emergency. One of the most important steps you can take to ensure the safety of pets in an emergency or a disaster is to include them in an emergency preparedness plan. Part of that plan should include an emergency preparedness kit for your pets.” In your emergency kit pack food, water, bowls, pet carrier with owners information on it, toys and a list of hotels that are pet-friendly or relatives that would be able to take your pet.
