The state of Michigan wants to welcome immigrants to the state. The Office of Global Michigan was created under executive order by Governor Whitmer. She appointed Fayrouz Saad as the Director on August 15th, 2019. The office is working to attract and retain immigrant talent and it is encouraging Michiganders to join in celebrating Welcoming Week which runs now through the 22nd of September. Saad remarked that immigrant communities across the state play a vital role in the state’s workforce and economy. During Welcoming Week the Office of Global Michigan hopes to celebrate and honor people whose hard work helps companies in Michigan. Michiganders are welcome to share their personal immigrant and refugee stories and highlight their contributions to their community on social media.
