On Tuesday, January 1st, Gretchen Whitmer was sworn into office as the 49th governor for the state of Michigan. Whitmer succeeds term-limited Republican Governor Rick Snyder and is also only just the second woman to hold the position of governor for the state. There were also a few newcomers that were sworn in including a new Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, two Michigan Supreme Court Justices and two Supreme Court justices.
