Time to break out the kayaks and dip into summer! Riverside Kayak Connection is hosting the 8th annual Port Austin Kayak Symposium this weekend. Friday, June 23- Sunday, June 25, the symposium will offer tours, classes, rentals and even retail. According to the webpage, we have all read about or experienced one of the tragedies on lakes and rivers, many of which may have been avoided. Foundation Safety and Rescue Training course will fill your “tool box” with practical real time applications for rescues of any craft. This is the class most likely to help you save someone’s life and help you choose when not to risk your own. You can also expect to learn to solve problems that could arise during rescues and which safety tools are effective irrespective of craft. During the course participants will be performing self and assisted rescues of a variety of watercraft: canoes, recreational kayaks, whitewater kayaks, sea kayaks, and paddleboards.
