Thursday, June 21st marks the first day of summer or also known as the Summer Solstice. Here are some facts about the day! The summer solstice, for the northern hemisphere, is when the sun reaches its northernmost point in the sky. The solstice will happen at 6:07 a.m. due to the tilt in the Earth’s axis. The summer solstice is also, the longest day of the year, that means 15 hours, 4 minutes and 53 seconds of daylight, which about a second more than the day before and two seconds more than the day after. The days will now get shorter until the winter solstice when we will have only 9 hours, 15 minutes and 58 seconds of daylight. So until then celebrate the sun and Summer before we head into cold winter months!
