\u00a0 \u00a0The men and women of American Legion Post 382 believe in supporting the dedicated first\u00a0<\/span>responders who serve their community every day, and on Feb. 13 they presented the St. Clair\u00a0<\/span>Police and Fire Departments with a check to purchase equipment upgrades.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0\u201cWe did this just to give back to the police department and the fire department,\u201d said Post\u00a0<\/span>Commander Andy Dupuis. \u201cThey\u2019re always out there for us, so we figured they needed some\u00a0<\/span>things for their operating purposes, so we\u2019d figure we\u2019d help them out a little bit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0The money came from proceeds of the post\u2019s St. Clair Police & Fire Department Appreciation\u00a0<\/span>Day dinner and raffle on Sept. 29, 2017 as well as a yard sign selling campaign that started<\/span>months earlier. In all, the American Legion raised $22,650.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0Fire Chief David Westrick, said the fire department used its share to purchase a LUCAS device,\u00a0<\/span>which costs $15,000 a piece. This lifesaving piece of equipment helps if someone has a heart\u00a0<\/span>attack or goes into anaphylactic arrest because it does consistent and uninterrupted chest\u00a0<\/span>compressions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0The donated money the police department received will go towards the purchase of computer software that will aid with investigation. <\/span><\/p>\n
