Collaboration between private business, the nonprofit sector and local government to make the county the best it can be for both current residents and future generations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 \u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s not about fighting anymore,\u201d said Donna Russell-Kuhr, president of the EDA of St. Clair\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">County. \u201cWe need to hear about everybody\u2019s ideas from all those different sectors because that\u2019s how we\u2019re going to make improvement to make our county a jewel for the state of Michigan.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 \u00a0One of the main topics of discussion was bringing back the skilled trades to the forefront of our\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">region. Guest speaker Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley said while the state has made an\u00a0extraordinary comeback, many communities like St. Clair County don\u2019t have enough qualified\u00a0workers for the jobs available. \u00a0 \u00a0One reason, he said, is because for too long the pendulum had shifted to a place where it was all about college constituting success after high school, when in fact there are many tracks - often with a higher income and better career options than a college degree provides. \u00a0 \u00a0Both Calley and Russell-Kuhr praised the collaboration between businesses and the education\u00a0system to sponsor things like FIRST Robotics. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u201cAt the end of the day it creates opportunity for that child and a ready workforce for that\u00a0business,\u201d Calley said. \u201cIt\u2019s a true win win win across the board for our communities, our\u00a0employers and our students.\u201d \u00a0 \u00a0Another topic was the development that has or will be happening in the region. Dan Casey, CEO\u00a0of the EDA of St. Clair County, said 12 to 15 projects have recently been announced.
