Sandfest has been cancelled this year. The main reason for the cancellation is the shifting of resources from community events to community aid, which eliminates funding from the major sponsors. The event is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Fort Gratiot Light, who work to improve the historic grounds of the lighthouse.
Chairman David Brooks said in a press release that \u201cthe majority of the available sponsorship money in the community will and should be directed towards local and national relief efforts for the COVID-19 pandemic. We look forward to bringing the event back next year bigger and better than ever.\u201d Sandfest is an event that attracts sand sculptors from all over the world. The 2021 event is planned for August 6th-8th.
