They believe that she will be an inspiring new force in our community and will provide great leadership for the Museum as it strives to further its mission and goals of presenting and preserving local Michigan and Maritime history. \u00a0 \u00a0Margaret Aiken is a Port Huron native that will return back to her old stomping grounds\u00a0to take on this new position. Margaret was previously the Linde Family Foundation Coordinator of School and Teacher Programs at the Colby College Museum of Art. In this position she managed 40 volunteer docents, 12 student docents, 7 student interns, and six teaching artists while overseeing programs serving over 4,000 school visitors and hundreds of families in Central Maine. Before that, she served as the Director of Visitor Engagement at Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, Ohio and as the Program Developer for School Audiences at the Science Museum of Minnesota. She received her B.A. in Art History from Yale University and her M.A. in Museum Education from Tufts University. During graduate school, she worked as a teaching assistant at Pierce Elementary School, completed a curriculum writing internship at the Museum of Science, Boston and was the head coach of the Charles River 14 and under girls ice hockey team. She has experience working on grants from the National Institute of Health, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, as well as from several foundations. \u00a0 \u00a0The Port Huron Museum is glad to have Margaret on board and to welcome her back to the Port Huron area.
