In fact, the Fire Department will even install them. With the success of the program, another danger that hasn’t been addressed is carbon monoxide detectors. With an older housing stock this is a real danger in the community and every year there are several fire runs for carbon monoxide issues. Carbon monoxide detectors can be more expensive than smoke detectors running at $15-$30 each. So the city manager of Port Huron will be providing low income based families with free carbon monoxide detectors from his own budget.
