While the impact of trade deals like the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA, has been uneven for some American workers. City Manager of Port Huron. International trade – the export and import of goods and services – supports one in five American jobs, which is 41 million jobs in total. In Port Huron, it’s the second largest trade crossing with Canada, and the jobs supported by trade is even higher. Also, the cross-border freight movement has experienced steady growth due to NAFTA in recent years. Port Huron boasts another key feature that improves its position for cross-border trade: freight rail access. And without rails Port Huron may not exist.
