In 1986, the Port Huron City Council started a community service awards program in an effort to recognize and show appreciation to Port Huron’s outstanding citizens who have contributed their time and effort toward making Port Huron an even better place to live. The “Spirit of Port Huron” awards program will be held on June 11th. Awards will be given in eight different categories such as Brotherhood, Cvic, Cultural, Economic Progress, Good Neighbor, Lifetime Achievement, Heroism, and Youth Service. The City Council is asking the citizens of Port Huron, along with local groups, service clubs and churches, to submit names of people they feel are deserving of such recognition. Nominations are due by March 30th and for descriptions of the awards and where to submit nominations visit porthuron.org
