The Water Warriors are men and women from all walks of life who have two things in common; their love of water sports and their desire to help people. Since 1991 they have combined those passions in the form of jet skiing to benefit the Special Olympics through a 5-day, 450-mile endurance ride on personal watercrafts starting at Mackinaw City, riding the entire length of Lake Huron, the St. Clair River, finishing in Algonac, with the goal to raise money for the athletes of Special Olympics Michigan. The group is set to cruise under the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron Thursday around 3 p.m. They plan to host a pig roast fundraiser and informational meeting for local residents at the Bridge Street Marina at 6 p.m. The idea for the ride came to life through a member of the Wertz Warrior Snowmobile Endurance Ride, who believed overcoming the obstacles of Michigan’s vast waterways and weather conditions could be conquered. According to the groups page on Special Olympics Michigan, the annual five day trek takes place each year at the end of July. with pre-planned fuel stops, rest stops, evening activities and overnight accommodations.
