The Police Officers Association of Michigan recently held their officer of the year awards at the 2019 POAM Convention held in Grand Rapids. Port Huron Police Department’s officer Chris Smith was one of the recipients. Officer Smith received the award in response to actions taken when responding to a knife wielding suspect which he was able to subdue. Port Huron Police Chief Joe Plazter said, “We’re incredibly proud of Officer Christopher Smith, who was named Police Officer of the Year for the second year in a row at the 2019 Police Officers Association of Michigan Awards Ceremony in Grand Rapids, MI. Officer Smith couldn’t be more deserving of such a prestigious award, He is a hero to us all!”
