It wasn’t until the 1950s that Halloween was recognized as a family-friendly kid-centered holiday in the US. Today, Americans spend an estimated $2.5 billion on costumes each year and if you add in the amount of money spent on candy, American consumers spend an estimated $6 billion annually on Halloween. Halloween ranks the nation’s second-largest commercial holiday after Christmas.
