On Friday, October 5th, tenth-grade students from around St. Clair County high schools visited a variety of different manufacturing facilities in the Blue Water Area in honor of Manufacturing Day. Rachel Verschaeve, associate director of Education Services at St. Clair County RESA, said, “Manufacturing Day is a chance to break down some of the stereotypes that people may have about today’s manufacturers”. Some students had the opportunity to visit Domtar Corporation, which is a pulp and paper manufacturing mill located in Port Huron. Eighty students had the opportunity to meet workers who shared the history of Domtar, what they do and even had a tour of the facility. Manufacturing Day is part of a RESA initiative, “Design 4 the Future,” which has a goal of ensuring that every graduating senior has a plan for life after high school.
