During the 19th century, steamships ruled the Great Lakes. Often a ship was identified by its steam whistle. Ship captains would tune their steam whistle to create a unique sound so that their ship could be identified before it could be seen. When the Great Lakes shipping fleet switched from steam to diesel engines they no longer use the whistle. So this Saturday, there will be a tribute to the Great Lakes Whistles on the Water at Palmer Park in St. Clair from 9 am to 4 pm. For more information visit stclairontheriver.com
