This past Friday the old Chicory plant burned down in Port Huron. Not only did the Port Huron Fire Department dispose of the fire, other local agencies were there to assist such as Marysville, Fort Gratiot, and Port Huron Townships fire departments. Also, Tri EMS and the Salvation Army helped in the process. City Manager of Port Huron, James Freed stated, “Without the ladder trucks and manpower support from our partners, things would’ve turned out differently”. He also added in a press release that, The structure is destroyed and cannot be saved, it also poses a danger to health and human safety as it currently stands. I have authorized David Haynes and Chief Nicholson to execute the necessary emergency orders to immediately demolish the facility. Any costs associated will be assessed to the property, as we typically do in these circumstances. The city plans to make the redevelopment of the site a priority.
